I agree, don't ask for your gift, a gift is supposed to be of the giver's preference. What really matters is the principle not the object.

Gifts are to come from the giver - not someone asking for it.  However, it is appropriate to hint  ;)

Not sure why in particular you would be scared to ask for your gift can you expand on that a little bit please? Christmas is all about sharing and caring. If you have a list and have been asked then i do not see why you would be scared... Are you afraid it is to expensive? Is it something that would not be approved of? Do you feel your being to greedy? Whatever the case  make a list of what you want for christmas. Maybe some pro's and con's about the items. It's never hurts to ask just remember that. Doesn't nessisarily mean your going to get everything you ask for but you never know. I hope you get over your fear of being scared to ask for things for christmas. It's good to recieve it's even better to give. : ) Have a happy and merry christmas holiday ( just in case i don't say it on christmas)  :snowman: :santa: :snowflake:

I, for one, am perplexed.  Why are you scared to ask for your Christmas gift unless the gift is too extravagant and costly for anyone to ask for?  I can see you asking for something that your loved ones can afford.  It is the thought that counts and,  as long as it is something you don't want, you can ask the person for the receipt and exchange it into something you do want.  Good luck and I hope your Christmas is happy and prosperous. :santa:  :santa: :santa:

Don't ask for a specific gift. But you can hint at things subtly LOL  :present:

Buy it yourself then you won't have to feel anything.

I'm not sure the origins of the anxiety here. Out of courtesy I don't we're typically supposed to "ask" for a gift and some people contort their face when something doesn't happen, but you can sort of throw out hints or reminders about things you're interested in.

What I've always done all my life is create a list that has ten to twenty items that I'd like.  Some were sorta expensive (a game console for example) and others were cheap (like a $5 book or game) and others were sorta mid level.  That way, if my family members can't afford the game console, there are plenty of other options to try before trying to make something up.

My one friend asked their parents for cash for a trip.  Something about their school was doing a trip, but the students had to buy the tickets, so her aunts and uncles chipped in like $20 and her parents did like $100.  That works for bigger gifts, like a car, cause then it isn't just one person taking on the entire cost but a group of people working together to give it to you.

Obviously, you can't go up to someone and say "get me an xbox one" and expect them to give that to you, but if they ask you for ideas on what you'd want, it never hurts to give them a variety of ideas that you'd like to have.  They can completely ignore the list, but it gives them ideas of things you'd really appreciate getting and they could go the gift card route if nothing else.

If you don't mind sharing, what is the item you'd like and why don't you want to ask for it?
