on March 6, 1957, the English withdrew from the Gold Coast, and Kwame Nkumrah changed its name to Ghana, meaning "Warrior King". the capital city was established as Accra, meaning "ants", and 5 years later in 1962, the city of Torman, meaning "gourd", had its name changed to Tema.
Ghana's population is 26 million people and there are 10 administrative capitals:
Wa, Upper West Region
Bolgatenga, Upper East Region
Tamale, Northern Region
Cape Coast, Central Region
Sunyani, Brong Ahafo Region
Kumasi, Ashanti Region
Takoradi, Western Region
Koforidua, Eastern Region
Accra, main capital
Ho, Volta Region
the president is H. E. John Dramani Mahama, who replaced John Evans Fiifi Attah Mills, who died in office on July 24, 2012.
