Put the cd in the drive
open up with your media player
 choose rip
pick which songs you want or the whole album
the songs will be saved to your computer
you then sync the songs like your normally would

I actually like using a program called EAC (Exact Audio Copy: http://www.exactaudiocopy.de/ to rip the songs off of the CD. It's not only free to use, but it can also connect to an external database to get additional information (track titles, artists, album covers, etc.) and write it into the compressed file's data (eg will write the info. into an MP3's ID3 tags). It also does a much better job of trying to correct errors during the extraction and will report on how successful each extraction was as well as areas in the song where there may be errors that it wasn't able to correct. You can also set up a naming convention as to where you want to store the songs including sub-directories along with the file name itself (eg I use My Music/[Album Artist]/[Album Title]/[Track Artist] - [Song Title] which I really appreciate the distinction between album artist and track artist esp. for albums, like movie sound tracks, that have many different artists).

Using the windows media player is one way. If it's going on my iPod though I open up iTunes, put the CD in, and let iTunes do the work. That way it's already on my iTunes and I can sync it with my iPod.
