question for parents!
« on: November 07, 2014, 06:30:49 am »
Just curious what other parents on here think..

My family and I live in a good neighborhood, but the public school systems arent that great, but if you go about 40 minutes south you have a great neighborhood and great public schools. So my question, would you move neighborhoods or look into the private schools?

If it was convenient for the location of my job, I would move to the better neighborhood and school system unless the private schools in your current area are good schools and reasonably priced.
Have a wonderful day!

I personally would never pay for private school. My parents are both retired public school teachers and yes, there can be "not great" schools, but in every school there are good teachers and bad, whether you pay a tuition or not. Stay involved either way and there will be a better experience.

I started my kids off in the Montessori daycare system. We debated as to whether we should keep the children's accelerated path going by putting them in private school. We researched the public elementary schools and found that one of the best in the nation was a mile away but we needed to move three blocks in order to meet admission criteria. Public middle school was criminal at best and I feel that we let our kids down by going that route. My daughter started self teaching herself during that two year stretch. We put my son into a private high school and it has made all of the difference in the world. My daughter is about to graduate with a 4.5 cumulative grade point average because she took all AP classes and audited those that would affect her GPA.  She also has taken online college courses to keep herself challenged. I am amazed at how huge of a difference there is between public and private and would work four jobs if I needed to in order to keep my son there.
