Fruit Cake! Have you ever actually tried it?

There's so many kinds...and so many kinds of bad.    There was one my mom used to make with Brazil nuts stuffed into dates so when it was cut, there was a dark ring with the nut-filled center & that one was the best one I've ever tried......but still not a fan.

I've tried a few variety of fruit cake and concluded I am not a fan.  I'm not a really big candied fruit person to begin with, and putting that in a cake ... shudder...

I have tried fruitcake and I do not like it. My aunt used to make one every Christmas, hers were not as bad as the little square ones you buy in the store but I still could not eat it.

i have not but i would be interested in trying it.  it always looks so heavy that i have never tried it.

I really like it, but it isn't something you want to eat all the time. It is heavy going.

I've never tried it, mostly due to all the bad press it has.     I have been meaning to try it to see what all the fuss is about & if it is truly awful.     I can surmise from all these comments not to buy the ones from the stores, they had one at Costco I might attempt;  or buy one from Harry & David's.

The store bought ones to me are like eating saw dust.  Although I haven't tasted since I was a kid.  Now once when a teenager tasted one that was homemade and it was pretty good.  Yea, let us know how yours came out I would be interested to know.

My Grandma made one for years and it was very good. Her way was for 6 months prior to Christmas was to wrap the fruitcake in cheese cloth and every day soak it in rum and brandy.It had a KICK to it.I ate a store bought one and UGH!

My grandma used to have fruitcake for the holidays, although I don't think she made it. I always thought I was pretty good. I bet homemade is even better.

I don't think I've ever actually tried fruit cake. I've heard the jokes about it of course. And looking at the recipes, well, I'm not really an alcohol drinker, so didn't appeal that much to me in the past.
But I found a fruit cake recipe yesterday - literally cake with dried fruit in it - so I baked one  I'll report tonight how it tasted. Crossing my fingers I didn't mess it up.
 
Anyone have any fruit cake recipes they enjoy? Or horror stories Feel free to post jokes or whatever too. lol

I've had good fruit cake all jokes aside, and with the right fruit, and prepared the right way it is pretty good!  Some of the store bought stuff I bought was disgusting tho!  So just watch out which one you choose!  Happy Holidays!
