How much do you think is fair to spend on Christmas gifts for family?

I think for family there is no fair limit. I would say go with what your heart desires. whether it is a dollar or hundred dollars, I think it is better to give than nothing at all. Even time spent with them is better than materialistic stuff!

Its the intention that matters not the cost of the gift. I usually don't spend too much on one person so that I can give gifts to more people.

we rarely buy for the adults in my side of the family.  usually only spend 20 a person on the kids.  in my hubbies side, they buy for the kids and then for the adults, everyone gets a 25$ gift card, toss them all in a bag and draw cards.

As cheesy and cliché as it sounds I think that it isn't the monetary price that counts but the thought that goes into it and showing someone that you thought with our heart. I am capable of spending but prefer to save by leading with my heart. I bought a dozen or so hats from a charity for about ten dollars a hat. I made a five dollar donation for each hat that I purchased in addition to a larger over all donation. I plan on wrapping these hats with a small card that says a donation has been made and that the receiver of the hat should pass it on to someone in need with a five dollar bill. This provides warmth, a meal, and the warmth that comes with doing something good. A win-win-win equation. I have made a few candles with a poem attached. I have made thumb drives filled with photos for loved ones. I have also started making a cd for everyone on my list.

My finances for the year determines how much I can spend, as a whole, at Christmas time. I'm doing my very best to NOT over spend. :) Mainly, for me, it is making sure my daughter has a good Christmas.

I love that idea of the gift card exchange.  Sounds like fun.   I'm with some of the others, it depends on what we can afford.  I've done better this  year than last year and have only spent the money I earned online.  Am loving it.

I don't spend any money on Christmas "presents." I buy a handful of things on Cyber Monday or Black Friday online sales and give them to my daughter prior to that date. And they aren't gifts, they are just good deal items. I don't celebrate Christmas.

X-mas spending money for me is about 300-400$ for my whole family and friends depending on what I think they want or on their wish list.

We drew names among everyone in the family so each person in effect has a "secret santa".We have a dollar limit of $30.

I like natashaspy's husband's family idea of all $25 gift cards getting tossed in a bag and drawn.....who knows which card you would get?!  A little fun twist to a basic gift card!

All depends on what you can afford and who it's for.  I tend to spend a little more on close family members.

I don't think price is an issue, it's from the heart that matters the most!

When it comes to my kids and my parents I don't pay attention to money. But we had our family party where we had the gift exchange for $10 a gift.
