If I were to live in the country (no city lights), I would use a night light just to help me get from the bed to b-room.
If you live in a lighted area, a night light is not really needed.

I have night lights is stratigic places. One in each bathroom, one in the hall, one in the kitchen. I find this helps my kids be more independent with nighttime toileting and my husband does not wake me when he gets up (2 hrs earlier that me) by turning on all the lights.

Not a nightlight but like the others I keep a pen light to get from the bed to the bath so I don't step on the dog.

I sleep in a loft bed with a sewing desk and a dresser underneath instead of an extra bed, and I leave a lamp on under my bed.

I don't. Never have. The only night lights I have in the house are ones in the hallways and in the bathrooms that automatically turn on when it is dark out, so if I get up to get a midnight snack I don't have to turn on the lights. They work amazingly!
