Unless you are living in a large and i mean large  house i can't see that  kind of rent.  of if you are making  a couple of hundred thousand a year. Then too me it would be better to buy.  Ca and NY are about the highest places to rent. And i would not live in some of the very small  apartments they have in NY.  The rent is cheap here where i live. But then  the wages are too. So i guess if you are making large wages  it is alright to pay it. Just i wouldn't

I've always heard how high the rent is in certain places, especially NYC.  I recommend you live off 1/3 of your earnings if you can (even if that means renting a room from someone), saving up the rest while creating new streams of income and/or investing to buy something paid in full.

Or at least pay a large enough percentage down so that the mortgage is less than rent would be.  I own a 5 bedroom home paid in full that I'm sure I couldn't afford the rent on had I not employed the plan I just suggested to you. If it were just me, I'd probably buy a shed or something until I could do better.  I'm just not for paying large amounts of rent, I did it from age 17 to 32 and I'm sure I bought a couple houses with all that rent money.

Yes, I have heard that rent prices are really high, I know in my area DC/Maryland  they are very high. I have friends with adult children that are living at home because it is so hard to find something they can afford to rent; especially when young adults are just coming out of college and they are saddled with those student loans; it is difficult.

I do not see how they can enforce rent control.  If I OWN the property then no one can tell me how much I can charge for someone to live on MY property.  Having said that, I do agree that rent is crazy high.  I know people who pay double what my house payment is for rent and it is for a smaller place.  While I to a point can agree it is insane I can also see the owners side in that most times when a renter moves out they have to do a ton of repairs because of the massive destruction.  People do not care if it is not theirs.

I laughed at how some people wanted an increase in pay but did not realized once its up your rent goes up as well.

Thank Goodness we've found a place to rent that is affordable for our family.  Of course it took us 4 years to find it and we had to give up a few major aspects (ie: school district) + we're not in the city -- or suburbs  We're in a rural setting.  Course here it's not uncommon to hear of people paying up wot $2400 monthly rent.  That's a posh neighborhood with all the amenities and a least a 4 bedroom home though.

I dont think renting is worth it. I actually owned 2 houses in my life and I am working on buying a 3rd . People dont realize that they can get a mortgage even with some bills and even bankruptcy. I have done it. Most of the time, Your mortgage payment is either the same or even lower than the average monthly rent payment. the only thing is, all repairs are on the home owner.

wow that is crazy expensive, plus the increase on top of that.  In the Midwest things aren't that expensive, that's one of the things I like about it here.

I asked a marketing agent what makes rent prices so high.
She told me it has to do with the price of land or land value.
When you search for senior living facilities, prices can easily be $2800 - over $3000.
There are certain states where you'll find lower prices.
In Alabama, Arkansas and Utah, prices are not as exorbitant.
There may be other states - I don't know.
There are agencies that offer roommate arrangements; they screen their applicants.
