stackable washer and dryer

I used to go to the laundromat when I lived in Chicago.
I remember dragging my metal laundry cart down the stairs and down the street with my quarters in my pocket.
I did laundry at college and the machines required quarters for use.
Industrial machines are so big and hot; I had my bed sheets laundered in them for a short time.
In the next month or so, I have a chance to use the stack able washer and dryer in my new apartment. My linen closet will be open [no door]. The one I have presently I have to squeeze in sideways.

Before you buy and have a stackable  you must make sure the floor is going to be strong enough to support it. I used to sell washer and dryers at a retail store and our biggest problem with the stackables is the strength of the floor. If the floor is weak it will walk all over and also cause other problems. So be sure before it is installed check the floor and if it is an apartment check with the manager.

I see them in houses from time to time.  Sometimes you have to because you don't have room for the two side by side.  I wouldn't get one unless I had to, but they do serve purpose.

The other year, I did my laundry in South Dakota and they had them there. I have always did my laundry at home and that is one of the only times I ever went to a laundromat.

We have stackables in our house for space issues.  We used to have side by side, but there was no room for any movement -- our hookups are on a small landing between the main floor and attic stairs.  We are happy with the extra space that the stackables provide, but when we get a new house, we will be returning to side by sides.  The front loading washer is too low to the floor for my back's liking and the dryer is too tall for my shorter wife's liking.

I too have memories of going to the laundrymats for many years! I had an apartment sized washer and dryer and it was very hard to keep up with my family's laundry. We were a family of 5 at the time.

I used to have one when I was in a mobile home there ok I wouldn't have another one.

Never had a stackable washer and dryer, but if it is easier and takes up less space I am all for it!

I've never used a stackable.  Although before this last move the landlord told us he considered putting one in on the main level.  There isn't any hook up installed so he opted not to.  The basement however does have hook up for a side by side.  We've considered putting one down there... but for the sake of time efficiency, it's just easier to go to the laundromat and get our family of 5 done in a couple hours rather stretching it out load by load each day.

I have a membership in a Condo Time Share and some of them have them in the units. If space is a premium I think they serve a purpose, but not for home use if you have more room.

I have used stackables at Resorts.  They work ok if you are single or possibly just two of you; but not if you had a family to do laundry for.

We go to the beach a lot, but not to do laundry. Throwing in a few swimsuits and maybe underwear or pants after clam digging is about the limit. Most of the units only hold six, so we haven't had any problems

I have two nieces who recently moved into new apartments and each apartment came with stackable washers and dryers.  So far both seem to enjoy them and haven't had any issues.

I am fortunate enough to have access to front loading machines in my apartment complex and....

I can use them for free.  Life is good.

Having to go to a laundromat will certainly make you appreciate having your own washer and dryer. On the other hand, I have fond memories of going to the laundromat for the first time when I moved out. Somehow it felt pleasantly independent to do that chore on my own not using my parents machines. Of course, that got tedious fairly quickly
