Pipe Frozen
« on: January 07, 2017, 07:43:36 am »
I woke up this morning, turned on the faucet and Yep, no water. Pipes frozen. Any ideas to thaw without bursting the PVC? It looks like it's not going to reach 32 until this afternoon. I have well with a water pump next to the well outside, it's all frozen up.

Sorry, I have no idea.  I have heard open the cabnet under your sink and the heat from the house should defrost that one.  I also read if it's suppose to get really really cold, let a faucet drip water overnight, this is suppose to keep the pipes from freezing.  Good luck.

Do you have heat tape and a space heater.

Oh, dear so sorry but I don't have a clue except maybe do a little research on the computer.  You'll probably find an answer there.  Good luck.

My father has that problem when it's really cold. He leaves the doors open under the sink and lets a small stream of water come through the pipes at night to keep them from freezing. Good luck.

open faucets to a slow drip and that will prevent it. Just dont forget which is easy to do working two jobs. Just do it before you elave house for work. I rent and cant afford heat so i do it this way. Hope this helps.

We have a well....go to Walmart, they have heat lamps in the winter section.  It's a round silver light cover that just hangs in the well, uses a flood light looking bulb that is made to throw out heat.  We've used one the past 3 years with no frozen water since we started.  Also doesn't hurt to leave a slow drip in a couple of your faucets overnight, keeps the pipes from freezing.

I live in FL & actually was worried about that happening.  When husband was alive we wrapped pipes by well in blankets to prevent that but this year I just left the faucets running a little & we were ok.  In your case with that said once it happens I don't know what you do wow.  Hopefully someone who lives in really cold country will know what you should try.  Good luck with it.

To keep the pipes from busting, turn the water on, so as it thaws the water and ice can run out.  I have an old house.

Remember to leave the cabinet doors open and always allow a small trickle to prevent freezing.
We also wrap the pipes with a heat tape.
