Who does secret shopping? What site/company is the best to try?

I've done a few secret shops/mystery shops.  It's been quite a while ago and I honestly don't know if the companies I was affiliated with are still around or are still reputable.

My best advice is to research and review the topic.  I like to use Google and You Tube for information on things like this.

I tried it.  The company I signed up with the ONLY job I was ever offered was the post office.  They would send me a box.  I would ship it.  I could not open the box.  I could not know what was inside the box.  Uh no thanks.

Then there was a job about an hour from my house that was a donut shop and it paid like $7.  If you lived in NYC it might be good.  But where I live there aren't may jobs available.

I did the mystery shopper for a year with  Sonic and Burger King, paid $10 an hour you ordered what they wanted you to try, then answer a questioner and check to see if the bathrooms were clean. Sur got tire of burgers after a bit. Oh well I was in town at those times anyway with another job.

$10 an hour?  Most jobs pay per job not per hour.  How do they know how long you spent on the job?  How do you get a job as a secret shopper with Burger King?  Thru them or a secret shopping site.  There are shopper companies.  I talked to one but they wanted my SS# and were very vague about jobs in my area.  I do have a friend that works with them.  And they do pay but he lives in an area where more jobs are available and travels all over the country.

I've never done it since I've been very leery about it all.

Temp agencies don't offer secret shopper jobs.  There are secret shopper sites that are legit.  They are as real as this site.  When I first signed on here I was not sure it was not a scam or that I would get paid.  I know Shoney's use to hire secret shoppers themselves.  Some companies go thru sites like this.  I have done projects thru this and other like sites that paid as much as $35-$50.

I've never done it since I've been very leery about it all.

There are a ton of companies who use "Secret Shoppers" although with the internet and surveys on the bottom of every receipt and people complaining about ever little thing online the split second they have a semi bad experience a lot of companies have gotten away from using the secret shoppers.

And I have seen where secret shoppers have posted online they go in to a store they are "shopping" and just look for negative stuff to "report".  Saying their "job" is to make sure you are perfect.  People can have a bad day.  There are people who can have really bad stuff happen ie a death in the family or whatever and they still have to work.  I have also seen where customers expect the employee to totally kiss their butt or they are complaining.

A good example there was a woman who done the secret shopper thing and she had done some sit down restaurants.  If her tea glass got below 3/4 of the way full she deducted from the tip she left as well as lowered the score she gave the waitress/waiter and the restaurant in general.  That is ridiculous.  Assuming people like this actually ever had a real job I wonder how they would feel if someone treated them like that?
