Telemarketers are now using local phone numbers to call people hoping to trick them into answering.  I kept getting a call from a local number that I didn't recognize.  They never would leave a voicemail.  I finally answered it one day and learned it was a telemarketer.
Have a wonderful day!

I get calls like that everyday. Unless I know the number, I don't answer.

That's why I downloaded an app on my phone that automatically screens for potential spam and telemarketer calls . It auto blocks known fraudulent numbers and  flags other as telemarketer, suspected spam, or robocaller . My phone used to ring constantly from spam and it's been cut back greatly

What is the app, I would like to try to try it.  I get so tired o these calls.     You can also get the shaft too f you answer something with a yes or any type of approval.  They play it back and get your charge numbers somehow.

I answer these strange phone numbers once in a while and say "Hell has been waiting for your call" in my creepiest voice.

You know, I have also but I never answer either, I don't know what's that about but they never leave a message so I don't call back.

I have an app that tells me when calls are spam, but it misses some. I usually google the number while it rings and only call back if they left a voicemail and it's legit.

So about once a month for the last 5 months I have been getting a call from this strange number, its in my area code, and has the same prefex as my cell phone number, but I don't answer it ever.  No voicemall either....

That is not strange.  Happens to every one I know all the time.  The first 6 numbers look familiar. That is because they think you are more likely to answer. The caller is most likely spoofing the number the are calling from.  Pay attention you are likely to get a call from your own number.

We do not answer calls we do not know anymore. Not sure why we are on the do not call list does not seem to help.

The do not call list does not stop every call that could come through.  I called or tried to call my cousin in another state last night.  It rang forever and the phone was finally answered by a woman who you could tell was already very annoyed.  I didn't recognize the voice and asked for my cousin and the person just said  in a very annoyed voice "wrong number" and hung up.  Well it was somewhat of an emergency and the phone number use to belong to my cousin.  It was an honest mistake.  And I doubt I ruined this witch's life by dialing her number at 6:30 or so in the evening.  People are too touchy.  And the do not call list does not apply to every thing.  If you go in and read certain callers are still allowed to call you.

No, I don't answer the phone if I don't know who it is.  But I don't get all bent out of shape if I get an unknown call.  There is an elderly woman who calls me every couple weeks on Sunday afternoon and asks for someone I don't know.  I realized a few weeks ago it was the same woman.  She is old and obviously the number is close to the same as mine.  Maybe she can't see well or remember the first 3 digits are different.  I don't know.

I have also noticed any time anybody gets a call from a number they don't know they auto report it.  People can dial a wrong number.  People need to calm down.  There are bigger things to be upset about in this world that a wrong number.  The IRS callers...they call me several times and I let it go to voice mail and get part of a recorded message telling me they are going to have me arrested.  Well bring it on.  I go on with my day.  Sometimes I report it but most times I don't bother because it will not do any good.

It is called spoofing.  The phone number that shows on your caller id - the owner of that number probably has no idea it is being used.  Yet another reason not to plaster that number all of social media and ask people to help you in spamming that number to death.  I have known of at least 3 people that got a call and the number on the caller ID was their very own number.

There was a new one besides the "can you hear me".  Which I got that one.  I didn't answer it though.  And there is no way to get your credit card numbers.  I think what they do is something that they can either change your phone service (this happened to someone I know) or charge something to your phone.  Like when you text certain things and they charge it to your phone service.  But they can't get your credit card numbers by you saying yes.

I just block individual calls that are spam callers.  Works pretty good for me.
