No Chat Speak, Whole Sentences, Proper Spelling, Describe Problem
« on: September 27, 2009, 10:52:27 pm »
If you want to be taken seriously, and get useful replies to any problem you have, follow the advise in the thread title.

You can't expect a quality reply when you don't make a quality question.

I grow tired of reading "U" instead of "you" and using triple negatives, when someone actually means an affirmative. As well as incomplete or broken sentences, lacking any grammatical structure.
Spelling, punctuation and text formatting are also nice features.

Even more important is to actually describe your problem or frame your question so that someone can answer it. Vague questions often receive vague or incorrect answers.

When I read a post that says

Quote
i did all offers & not crediting why am i doing wrong  :crybaby2: help me
I leave the thread.
You will find most of the people on this site with knowledge, rarely reply to such threads.

If you can't be bothered to take an extra thirty seconds to click the spell check button, or type out whole words, I can't be bothered to try to help you.

I concur. I think a lot of it would subside if people read their posts word-for-word to themselves. I don't know of anyone who would actually say 'i tried all offers n not crediting plz help!' in the real world.

No-one's asking for the Queen's English here, but please have some degree of coherency. Simply put: I can't help if I can't understand what you're saying!

Few reasons why people do this:

-English is not their primary language or simply they are not good at English, hence writing posts which make sense to others is difficult.
-Do not check before posting
-Just plain lazy to type the whole word/sentence
-Can not stop TXTN ;)

Your first reason on this list is certainly understandable, though there's typically a difference between someone who speaks English as a third language and someone who is fluent and simply doesn't care.

As a side note, I can't even stand text-speak in text messages! :p

Can we add all caps to the list?  IT'S SO IRRITATING WHEN PEOPLE TYPE EVERYTHING THEY WRITE LIKE THIS.   ...gotta stop now before I drive myself crazy!

NO KIDDING STOP YELLING AT ME PLEASE AND WHAT'S WITH THE 5,000 QUESTION MARKS??????? AND EXCLAMATION POINTS!!!!!!!!

What's Worse Is When People Capitalise Every Word In A Sentence...frankly, it's too much effort. I fail to see the point!

[A confession - aside from this forum and one other, I almost never capitalise anything unless it's a job application, etc. I'm fully aware of how grammatically incorrect that is, yet it doesn't seem 'as bad' as most other offences because I remain coherent and complete my sentences, etc. It's mainly a carry-over from the way I took notes in high school classes - just be glad my own personal 'shorthand' doesn't make it in there!]

I completely agree. It is like people do not know how to speak proper english anymore because they are too lazy to click a few extra keys with their fingers. Come on people, get real.

Some folks are using their cell phones to access this site. This may explain why so many people choose not to write complete sentences.

I think it's funny that you chose not to use a complete sentence in your title.

Then buy a QWERTY or don't post. Why post illiterate garbage?

It's called bullet points. Something you are perhaps unaware of?

But hey, if you feel you fit in better with the chatspeak and terrible grammar people, by all means, hang out with them and try to help them  ;)

Haha I know it seems so out of the way.

The funny thing is though, the title complains about not having whole sentences, and yet it itself isn't a whole sentence. :P
