proper names and proper titles
« on: July 04, 2017, 07:43:23 am »
I saw a video yesterday that pointed out something.
The real name for the Fourth of July holiday is "Independence Day".
That term points back directly to that historical day in 1776.

Thank you for pointing that out.

Calling it just the 4th of July dulls down it's significance and makes it all about hot dogs and fireworks.

So many young folks, even millinials, often have no clue what the day is all about.

My old cranky neighbor keeps calling the cops for people lighting off fire works,  last night she turned people in across the river that is in Wisconsin not here in Minnesota , so the cop boats were out flashing light all night.  Its legal to do it in Wisconsin  but she claims its the Eagles that could get upset by the noise, God forbid a Eagle gets scared !!

Yes, it should be celebrated as Independence Day.

July 4th is the calendar day for this particular event.

"Fourth of July" is just a lazy nickname for Independence Day in my opinion.

Honestly, it shouldn't matter. Titles are just titles. What you do with that title is more important.

I wouldn't have gained independence if I was alive then so I'll stick to 4th of July although I know the official name.

Yes it was, and I think it lost it's name because of the day I guess.

It's understand, any American child who graduated from any American school would know that!
