The new way of getting the word out!
« on: April 15, 2018, 09:55:57 am »
I have had my phone now for about 10 years trying to keep the cost down is not easy. Okay, I have been through a new thing on my texting phone, like example: I got message from a person giving me a reminder to register to vote if I am not registered yet because it is almost here, another text, I got a wrong number - text, I asked who are you? I was shocked.

This doesn't even make sense.  Not sure what you are even trying to say.

The reminder to vote was probably just a mass thing sent to a bunch of numbers. Kind of like I got a call from someone asking me to vote for her husband. She got a list of all the phone numbers in my local city.  I don't know how she got them but she did.

As for the texts that is just somebody either being stupid or trying to get you to respond to them.  I have got a text from the same person several times.  It is always the same.

Him: Texts something stupid
Me: Who is this?
Him: Sorry Sir. Wrong number.

I usually don't respond at all on texts that are actual texts that I think are wrong numbers but sometimes I will so the person knows they are texting the wrong person.

If I texted someone and I got a reply that said "who are you" I probably would not respond. It is possible for someone to legit get a wrong number either while dialing or texting.  No need to answer being a smart A.  I have had an older woman call me several times on a Sunday afternoon and ask for the same person.  I tell her she has the wrong number and she is very apologetic.  She isn't doing it on purpose.

I get that there are a lot of scammers out there but there are also a lot of good people who make an honest mistake.

It is easy to know if it is a working number.

I only reply to text messages from people or places I know. Who knows what scammers are trying to do now-a-days.

Me too, I get tired of answering sales calls.

I never respond to numbers I do not know.

Very occasionally they are a wrong number.  More often, a scam....

This last week, I was scammed and had $733 taken out of my ckg account. Plus 5 overdraft charges.

Fortunately, the company that billed me had been scammed also, and refunded my money the next day. So did the credit union on the overdraft charges.

Found out I was the 4th person who had this problem at my credit union. They have blocked the company in the middle of it, and are checking all this out.

It is seldom this easy.  We have to protect our info. They can destroy all our finances, and mess up our lives big time.

That’s so strange. Maybe it was a scam? Or like the other person said a mass text reminder

If I don't know the number when I get a call I don't answer it.  If it is important or someone I know they will leave a message.

The same with a text from a number I don't know .... Usually if I know the person they will start the text with .. Hey It's So and So

It's pretty easy to tell if it's spam or from someone you know.
