Generic vs. Name Brands
« on: August 06, 2018, 06:23:56 pm »
For me, there are some foods, no matter what they are, that I have to buy name brand, such as sodas, certain salad dressings, mayo and snacks. Is there anyone else out there who have to spend an extra dollar and get name brand?

There are certain items like you that I will not buy a generic brand no matter what the cost. But I do try and wait for them to be on sale or until a coupon.  Then I usually purchase more.

I am a little skeptical to buy anything that is generic. However, I think it is more due to my upbringing. My mother absolutely refuses to buy generic or store-brand products.

Back when I was a soda drinker I noticed generic Coke does not taste like the genuine one.

I'll spend a little more on brands I'm loyal to; such as butter and sour cream.

Sometimes taste varies a great deal between brands.  I get used to a certain brand and stick with it.  With things like sugar, flour, butter, I'll go with generic.

Yes, I agree, there are certain items that there are no true generic replacements in my opinion.
Have a wonderful day!

Generic is great! The problem with giving generic to poor people for free is that you may wind up opening up a door to a store for them, that they have been kicked out of. So donate brand name, and let them yell back on them for the name brand instead!

I sometimes buy store brand items to save money. The difference in taste is small which is okay.

Yes. There are certain items I will only buy brand name because I've tried substituting generic and generic didn't cut it. I won't buy generic for butter. i tried a couple generic brands but they didn't have much flavor and seemed greasier than the real thing, Same with paper towels and Steak-Um's. Those are about the only 3 times I won't switch. Since only 1 store gives double coupons now and hubby doesn't like that store, I rarely use coupons, too. He does most of the shopping and hates coupons. (He's nuts!)  :)

I don't have to do anything. I do purchase name brands on a lot of stuff because the generic is just not good at all. I would rather not have anything as to have generic crap that is not good.

Like most others I tend to purchase the name brand.  I have tried generic on a few things over the years and for me it's just not worth what I saved.
