Both - I sometimes like the music and sometimes I just like the quiet.  Longer trips are for music and short jaunts are more quiet.

I hate it when people listen to music so loud in vehicles that I wind up having to hear it but don’t want to listen!

It depends on the mood/need at the time and whether I have others in the car - sometimes yes, other times no

I always want something on.  Depending on the time of day, either, talk radio, music or a crime junkie type of podcast.

If driving by myself, I enjoy the peace and quiet.  If with the hubby, he likes talk radio.

If I'm on a long road trip, I normally listen to audio books, "Outlander" at the moment. There are eight books in this series and my husband and I or on our second time listening to all eight of the series.  Needless to say, we are huge "Outlander" fans and the reader of this series is fabulous.  If you are spending hours in the car, though, it helps to have some variety, so music from my phone is my next choice of entertainment. Lots of oldies are always welcome.

I prefer to drive with no music at all.  Quiet is good.

Totally...unless I have passengers that are not sleeping. I will take off, with the family, at three in the morning and they are all sleeping. I will throw on my ear phones and crank the nastiest heavy metal in order to keep my heart pumping and mind alive. As they slowly start to waken (usually six to eight hours in to the trip) I will change to milder rock and roll and around noon, just before lunch I will change to hits from the sixties and seventies. After lunch the kids will take over the radio and put on techno/electric/dub music which is good enough to re energize with. We are able to get into some pretty great conversations while the music from the sixties and seventies are playing. We usually rent a large vehicle for the ride so that the dogs are comfortable and everyone can stretch out.

If I'm going on a long trip we play music and it seems to make the time go by faster.

So how come no one mentioned how fast music can make you drive faster? Ray Charles can really rev my engine at times and I have to watch my lead foot.  :-[

Slow music can be relaxing, but it can also make you sleepy. I hate trying to stay awake when I'm driving. But I can stop at a rest stop and rest my eyes for 15 minutes or so and feel okay.

Singing along with the radio if I know the lyrics can help keep me awake.  :icon_rr:

Music comes on when the car starts up! Or at least that is the way it used to be! But, not anymore.
