Unfortunately there would be a huge cut back in milk in my household.  As much as my family drinks milk I would go broke for sure!

I did not watch the news, so I wasn't aware of this. It'll be a big blow to many families. Will this be a nationwide thing or a particular brand or in a particular state? Average gallon of milk price here is around $3.49, but it can be found cheaper like $2.99 or a little more expensive like $3.99.

milk is usually the same price as a gallon of gas, and unless you expect gas to skyrocket to &4 i wouldnt worry much.  google it, ask. com, wikepedia it...milk is historically the same price as gas :dontknow:

I hope milk doesn't get that high. If milk goes up then a lot of the dairy will, cause of milk.  :sad1:

I can see what you mean. Dairy has definitely gone up where we live.

I hope that doesn't happen. We only buy 1 or 2 gallons a month, but that would be a steep jump. We have been able to find milk as low as below $2 a while back. But it's pretty much about $2.50 or so right now. The milk was at Aldi's mainly  which explains the prices.

I hope not I think milk is already to high, and I only buy two gallons a month as it is.  I realize everyone is having problems but I feel the poor people are the only ones taking a hit You wont see government cutting back on milk, and those who don't have to worry about money wont either.  My Husband is getting a SSI raise of $12 but we lose $ 6 of it in the food stamps so we only gaine $6 how is that fair.

Folks it is not the farmers causing the problem with the milk going up. Try the cost of fuel, having to import feed as far away as Canada because of the draught. The middleman is the one making the most. Do what a lot of other families are doing right now and that is buying a gallon and splitting it and then adding powdered milk to make 2 gallons. It is better for you any way. Makes it lower in fat.  Daries around her are having to close down. They just cannot afford the cost anymore. Let the govt. get off their duffs and do something about the cost of fuel and thatwould help. It is now costing some of these long haul and short truckers over a $1000. everytime they fill up now. And all of that has to be added to th cost of whaever is being shipped and then of course the cost processing and it goes on.

I'm begining to agree more and more with Warren Buffet.  If the Congress and Senate cannot get a handle on this in 2 years they are out of office, let a new group come in with some fresh ideas.  PERIOD.  As is they do not  deserve a special retirement plan and special insurance FOR LIFE.  It is sometime hard to listen to them spout off about people who are using the system when you take a look at the benefits they get  FOR LIFE.   As it is, I already use powdered milk for everything I can, cooking, hot chocolate.  Milk is not the only thing that will go up, but it is a good one to use to scare people because it is in 99% of the households.  Vickysue has it right and everything is going to skyrocket.

So.... if you're republican then it's ok to give government money to farmers, but NOT ok to give government money to starving, poor children?

Just trying to understand your mindset.

I agree that it isn't the farmers fault they are suffering just as much as the rest of us.  We are all suffer since the 2001 attacks and now we are suffering for it.

WoW~  :o

I haven't heard that story on the news. I think by hearing this, made me much more thankful that I get WIC vouchers! My husband and I work, but we still qualify for WIC. I only have a year of it though, since my son is 4 and he's only eligible until he is 5 years old!

I love milk and would hate for milk to be that expensive. Let's hope that it stays at $3.45 a gallon!   :crybaby2:

 :peace: ~workmama~
