Has this happened to anyone else?
« on: June 04, 2009, 07:01:49 pm »
I recently left my job of 4 years for quite a few reasons - the main one being that I wasn't really appreciated after I had put in a lot of hard work over the years. Seems like I had to be a "suck up" to really be appreciated. I have always been a hard worker and the consensus was that I was not valued as a worker at all.

I left the other day and feel like I have this big "hole" now - and I've felt low all day. As if I'm not the hardworker I thought I was...just feel out of place and just not worth anything in the work world.

Mind you I'm a full time student who's working on a Bachelor's, but I just feel like I need a good job to be "complete" if that makes sense  :dontknow:

first of all, CONGRATS! just hearing your story gives me a bit of hope, haha.

...i haven't exactly left my job yet, but i've been there
for about three years now, and more often than not, i struggle
with walking out or staying put for probably the same reasons
as you...

i put so much into it, and get so little out of it. and yeah, i completely
feel you on being unappreciated. you go above &beyond your expectations,
only to be treated as if you could've done better (or not even recognized
for it at all). you're there (even early!) for your shifts while very rarely calling off,
you let things roll off your back or you bite your tongue because you know
it will spiral into unnecessary drama - EVEN though it eats at you, and EVEN
though if it was anyone else, they'd throw a fit.

when the power of authority goes straight to someone's head,
taking their job entirely too seriously, stressing themselves and their staff
out about the tiniest things that do not matter...

sigh.
i keep trying to look on the bright side, and be thankful that i even have
a job. try to swallow the sword and look forward to the day that i take
my last step out of that place, and never have to look back.

AND... do it with a huge smile on my face, not letting anyone have the
satisfaction that they got to me, or that i'd rather light a match and throw it
behind me as i'm wavin' goodbye

ahh, i can't wait  ;D

Haha! I was definitely in your position. I'm just relieved in a sense that I don't have to deal with it anymore. I'm set for just a little while so maybe I'll enjoy my time while I can, you know?
