How did we ever get along without caller ID long ago?

This is a legitimate question, but after thinking about it - we never used to get so many telemarketer calls years ago either. MOST of the calls we got were from legitimate family or friends. While we still needed excuses to get off the phone if the other party was too chatty - the call screening wasn't nearly as big of an issue. I think about 75-80% of the calls we get today on our landline are junk/spam/scam/solicitation calls. And a significant amount of calls on our mobile lines are as well.

Depending on the caller, if asking for $$ just say Not Interested and hang up, if a robocall I just hang up.  Many years ago when I had a Land line this Indian people would call 20 times a day, saying that my prescription was ready to be delivered, they would not stop calling (there was not Caller ID), so we just pick up, hear their voices and hang up, or I would tell them in Spanish "No Speak English", one time my husband answer, heard their voice and put the phone down (no hang up, just down on the counter) let him do his speech and them we just heard the Hello, Hello, Hello until he got tired and hang up.

Now a days i just let in go to voice mail and don't worry about it.

Usually, if I feel that the subject the other person is discussing will take a while, I will wait until s/he pauses and then make up an excuse (e.g., I have an appointment, my mother is calling me, etc.)
