Saving money on groceries
« on: February 27, 2010, 12:05:42 pm »
If you would like to save money on groceries by taking advantage of coupons, you might want to google 5reasons2save and coupongal.  There are many sites like this but I personally use these two......Just thought I would share in case there are other coupon users out there.

Just be careful about coupons and remember, just because you can get it for $1 less doesn't mean you need it any more.  Only use a coupon on something you'd buy anyways.  If you spend $50 on crap you didn't need just because you were able to save $20 from coupons, you didn't save $20.  You wasted $50.

I agree with the the post that said to only get stuff you need. Coupons are great, but to get the best use out of them, you should only look for coupons for product you already get or plan to get.

When I buy stuff online, I always look for discount codes, some sites like retailmenot are good and have a bunch of codes, for stuff like free shipping and discounts on your order.

Oh I agree that you should only buy the items that you need/use....Unless you can get it free.  I take any free items I can get and if I do not like/use, I pass it on to a friend and or donate it to a foodbank.

I went to Randalls (grocery store) the other day.  I bought 2 boxes of Jiffy corn bread, 4 (pkg) of pudding cups and a box of HiHo crackers....My total bill after coupons was .10.   Yes, ten cents!!  I'm still learning how to use coupons effectively and I only buy items that we like/use but I am learning.

One of the good things about using coupons is that I can get things very cheap or free.  Many times I get things that I would never buy without coupons very cheap, by using coupons!  It is a way to treat yourself.

I disagree with using coupons for only things you would normally buy.   Of couse it makes sense to only buy things that you can USE, no point in getting cheap dog food if you do not have a dog!  ;D I use coupons for essentials and extras that I can use and enjoy.
By using coupons and getting things for next to nothing, I am able to share with others, give as gifts, or donate to the needy.

The real savings is to combine coupons with a store sale and or a rebate/promotion.  I use coupons for almost everything I buy at the supermarket/drugstore.
