Drinking I see alot on the TV but I never see a cigarette ad anymore, heck, it's getting hard to find a place to smoke.  I also look at it as any other ad.  I do notice that alot of the beer ads are pretty moronic so I think that would be an anti sale!

i never really thought about it too much, but there really aren't commercials or ad's for smoking anymore
beer commercials are everywhere (except kid TV)

I am so glad that, by God's grace, I gave up both years ago.  I see so much suffering associated with both.  I am not one of those people who go up to people who do either and preach to them.  I know how hard it is to quit.  But after watching family members and friends who are suffering from addiction and disease, I'm glad that at least more people are becoming aware of the hazards.

The other day I was watching television and it suddenly hit me. Why are companies still allow to place ads for spirits on television. In my opinion these ads are just as bad as cigarette ads. Television networks have long aired commercials for beer and wine. There is no reason for them to be on television. I feel they have a bad influence on our young society; especially teenagers. If people want to have something to complain about then we need to be opponents against such ads appearing on television.  :icon_rr:

They're both bad but they're both legal.  People will do what they want to do. It's their life.  Sadly, this is so true.

I quit smoking three years ago (tomorrow to the date actually) and rarely drink. At most a beer or two a week unless I'm on vacation.

Life is all about making choices and its a person's choice whether they choose to drink and smoke or not. Advertising is just another way for companies to get their product out there and sell it. If they make it look more enticing a person may be inclined to try it or not. Whether we choose to drink or smoke we make the choice. Nobody is forced to do something they don't want to do. Thats whats so great about this country the freedom to choose.

"Drinking I see alot on the TV but I never see a cigarette ad anymore..." -lbeery
"...there really aren't commercials or ad's for smoking anymore..." -Valerie1979
^That's because many years ago Tobacco advertisements had been banned from television and were thus only allowed text ads in things like magazines.

I am happy to say that I Do Not Smoke. Cigarettes disgust me, greatly. Although, I am continuously subjected to smoke of the SecondHand variety(not by choice however).
As for drinking... I do drink. However, I drink 'responsibly' and rarely. When I actually do drink, I don't go over my limits and get thrashed like so many other people do. I prefer to drink at home, so there's no need for anyone to drive. If I go out somewhere to drink, I always have some one who can legally drive me home. No slightly drunk, semi drunk, or full on drunk driving here, No Sir!! I'm a designated passenger, thanks. :)

I have been trying to quit for awhile now but I guess it is habit for me. When you have a cold beer the cigarette just makes it taste better! LOL :peace:

I don't smoke, but I did try it a lot of years ago and the cigarettes made me sick.  Today, I can't stand the smell of cigarettes because they give me an instant headache.  The smoke gets in your  clothes, hair, just everywhere.  I drink a little wine maybe a glass once a month.
