Daycare Cost
« on: January 09, 2011, 06:16:44 am »
How much do you pay for daycare or for your child to attend an early learning center?

One gal said it costs $1600/m for her daughter to go full time and her son to go after school, to me that is crazy! I work from home so I don't have that expense but I had thought that after he turns 1 he could go a few days a week, just to get better socialized. We have friends with younger children where I could setup play dates but he needs to get used to other people not just the inner circle. What are your thoughts on the expense?

I work at a daycare/preschool and we charge by the day. Right now for a infant to one year old it is $33 a day.

it depends on the age of the child and where you are located.
we paid nearly $1500/month for our infant care when our son was little.
now he is 3 and it's closer to $175/week
The facility we are at does drop in rate for $50 for those that are not regulars or only come a couple days/week.

one place quoted me $375/week when I was looking for a place for my son when he was born.... it's definately higher costs for the younger kids but 375/week was way out of my price range.

find an in-home daycare. they only charge what the y program would.. like 20 something a day for each kid. if u get help from the y then u will only have to pay a co pay.

I took my son 2 days a week for a month and it almost cost me $300 - I'm sorry, but I just don't have the money for that so I took him out.

Ok this one I know about I have been in both positions.  I ran a daycare with a preschool programs and I have also had a child that was in childcare at one time.  It is expensive.  I know that we had one family that was paying more for childcare than the mom was making working but the problem was they need the insurance so she had to work.  I also know that there is not a lot of profit for childcare center and the workers don't make much money.  If you have to look for a preschool program out there for your child to get some socializing, you need to look at the local school programs.  Most have programs for special needs children and they have to have a ratio of 50 percent special needs and 50 percent non special needs.  It is a great program that is run for the children but it doesn't cost or if it does it is a minimal amount.  Another way is to look into the coop, they are a little less expensive.  So if you are looking for the educational part of the programs you can find some that don't cost a lot.  Also you should look into some of the state and federal programs that can help with the cost.

here, I Went to one day care, she quoted to me 3 days a week $195/week. at least 3 days one week or 5 days a week. it will kill me, I do not have a job now and my husband salary is just 1k something. we can't afford that. I do not know what to do,I wanna go to work but if so, all my salary will give to the day care.
