homeless children
« on: March 27, 2009, 09:34:58 pm »
I just saw on the news, that one out of every fifty children are homeless. I was wondering if anyone here was ever homeless, and if so, how did they get a home back again.

I was never homeless but it sounds sad to be homeless...  I can't imagine myself homeless.. :crybaby2: but, well... I guess, when they have money then they just get a home again....

i was in the early 90s, but i had to sign up for help, through welfare and they helped us get a apartment, and a job , with food and about 6 months later we were back on our feet again and did not need the help anymore..but that was when there were more jobs..

I have been homeless with three children in toe...I have to tell you that it is not an easy feat to overcome...I have to thank God everyday for guiding me through that time in my life...we ended up living in a shelter that would watch the kids while we were working...both of us took whatever employment came along just so we could get out of the situation...It takes alot of hard work and dedication also the realization that the only things that matter are your kids...all the material things in the world will not make a family stronger...

I ran away from home when I was 17... ran away b/c my dad was getting remarried and she would have put me out anyways or made me so miserable I wouldnt have wanted to be there. Well, I went to another state and met my husband the first day. He was homeless at the time working in a mission. He had a lot of family problems. Well, I am proud to say that God brought us together and we have been married for almost 7 years now!!! We have 2 beautiful children and now we just work hard to make sure our children never have to go through what we went through!!! We have a nice home and car and good jobs. God is GREAT!

You thanked him for guiding you through it.

How did you feel knowing he put you through it to begin with?

Thank God we have always had a roof over our heads, but I have been donating clothes to shelters for years.  I make my husband donate his suits and ties so a homeless person could have something nice to wear to job interviews.  I do dresses and shoes for the women.  People often only need a hand-up, not a handout.  But hey, there is nothing wrong with a handout if you need it.  Glad you all are no longer homeless.  Now go help someone who is in any small way you can.

I didn't expect to see so many people say they were!!   I hope you all know how fortunate you are that you were able back on your feet, because there so many people that can never get out of that situation. You were all very blessed to have a second chance, especially those with children.

I was homeless for 8 months, while my daughter 17 went to live with a friend then onto her own life.  We lived on the disablity check from my illness and I lived out of our car till my SSI came thru. It's all behind my now and I don't think about it much anymore;  tho if I pass a homeless person on the street give them your change cuz every little bit helps. :female:

At first I was very angry and fusterated not understanding why I was put through this trial. Now I know because everyone has trials that are specific to them...I needed this trial to show me how much stronger I am than I thought I was...I think that anyone put in this situation would be angry and fusterated...but those are emotions that we have to learn to learn patience...patience with ourselves and patience with others.
