What's your Thanksgiving plans?
« on: November 01, 2012, 08:38:11 am »
I was just wondering if anyone had any unusual, different Thanksgiving traditions.  I am looking to do something different than the usual, and just wanted to see if anyone had fun ideas that they do.  My house usually just ends up with the guys gathered around the living room in front of the game after the big, traditional meal and though it is great, I want something new.

I have had to change the menu a bit for my family to accommodate for low carb needs. We are still having a fried turkey, pumpkin cheesecake, blueberry pie and green bean casserole but with a few changes.  Potatoes are off the menu and will be replaced with a cauliflower mash. I have selected a low carb bread recipe as well. The test kitchen day was a huge success so we are looking forward to Thanksgiving !

My family lives in another state so I go to my Husband's family's house.  We have all sorts of food from turkey, ham and deer to all sorts of sides.  It is fun.

Not sure what I will be doing.  Not even sure if I will be cooking anything.  The spirit of it is just not there anymore.

I don't have any plans this year as of yet. Probably just going to have a small bit of food for us, I think we're going to have cheese cake for a dessert this year. Can't wait! Cheese cake is just too good!  :P

Family lunch / dinner together...watch football games on tv.  Or, go on a stay-cation and play tourist with the family.  :)

LOL! It is a pretty simple recipe really ! All you need is 3 8 oz cream cheese (philly is the only one I use for cheesecake since fillers can change the consistency) about 16 ounces of pumpkin puree (you can use canned I don't), 3 eggs, 2 teaspoon of cinnamon,1/4 teaspoon of ground ginger, 1/8 teaspoon of ground allspice or ground cloves,1/8 teaspoon of ground nutmeg, 2/3 cup of sugar ( I use stevia), and 1/4 teaspoon salt Mix it all up and bake at 350 degrees for 45 -50 minutes then chill over night !

Not sure yet what we are doing this year but I am not cooking. I will make that announcement
today to the family before someone else states it and we have nothing to eat on turkey day.

we are going to the beach for the week of thanksgiving. we went two years ago and found a very good place that was doing thanksgiving dinner for a very good price. this year we are one more because two years ago my nephew was a baby. there is seven in my brothers family including him and his wife, my parents and the four of us in my family and we will have two units. the seven of them in one and the six of us in the other. we aren't very big on football so spending the time out on the beach suits us just fine.
