SO I have had all sorts of technology issues in the past but I just talked with my teacher today and she told me that she turned her computer on and it just gave her a code and nothing opened or worked and she went to several places to get it fixed and its beyond repair so she just lost the last 4 years of stuff on her laptop I COULD NOT IMAGINE the feeling has this happened to you? I am telling you this for you to back up your stuff always best to be safe then sorry !!!

YES back your stuff up!!! Theres many ways to do this and many of us don't! Me included! I do have my important photos on a flash drive or I emailed them to myself. The fact is all computers break down eventually!

I would notify my school of the problem since its still their computer. Hopefully the tech support will walk me through on fixing the problem.

I don't keep a lot of stuff on my computer, but would still be lost without it.  It is my entertainment because I am retired and it is my connection with the outside world.

First I would try and fix it, then I would seek help from someone else, I may even go as far as to take it a shop to be repaired. If all of this fail, I would buy another computer.

Did you know if you buy a Western Digital hard drive the same size as you old one, you can clone it through the USB port. They let you download Acronis True Image free (saved me $50) that only works if one of your drives is a Western Digital  That's the best backup I know of, just plug and play.

Her comp might be shot but the data is NOT lost, it can be retrieved! There are a number of ways to do this and it need not be all that expensive. Likely there is someone she knows at the school that can lend her a hand with that.

In todays technology driven environment there is absolutly no reason / excuse not to back up your important information.  As for the technical issues realted to a 4 year old laptop it is time to replace the machine with a newer one since the life cycle of a typical computer system is about 3 years.

Indeed this has happened to me.  Not once but a couple of times and sadly I keep loosing things that are important to me more than anything which are pictures of my kids.  Thankfully now with social media I've been able to keep pictures that are closest to my heart available all the time.  Back up - save and repeat is now my motto.

I purchased an off-site backup program.  It backs up everything however often you tell them to.  It worked for me.

Yeah, my internet provider offers a cloud backup program.  Its great, never have to worry about
loosing anything.  Everyone should back up their computers at least once or twice a week, depending
on how much info they input daily.  Just saying......
