Game Over For Toys R Us: Chain Going Out Of Business
« on: March 14, 2018, 04:03:40 pm »
Toys R Us plans to close or sell all U.S. stores, according to a person familiar with the plans. The chain has struggled through a months long bankruptcy process, buckling under heavy debt inherited from a 2005 buyout and intense competition from Walmart and Amazon.   HOW SAD even not having any kids i used to love checking this place out at X-Mas   :( :( :(

I couldn’t believe it when I heard the news. Kids today will never go to a toy store. Everything will be done on line.

I loved going to Toys R Us every year as Christmas approached.  Although the one here changed quite a bit.  Combined Babies R Us with Toys R Us so I haven't enjoyed it as much.  Prices are certainly higher than I can get on Amazon.  Sad to see the tradition go away but luckily where i am there are quite a few small independently owned toy stores.   Wonder if they will have big sales or just close.

yes my grown son loved going there as a kid. when I took my youngest  son I told him were shopping for someone else he could have one toy that costs no more then 5.00 that actually worked.Went to babies are us it was so expensive not surprised its going under. one simple pacifier was 7.00 or more. have to shop for a new grandchild have 2 grandsons just between us hope its a girl  would love to buy pretty clothes  and toys  .ofcource a boy is great to.

I just saw the news on my CNN app a little while ago.  It must be pretty bad if all the stores are going at one time.

Other business would close a certain amount of their stores at one time.

I guess brick and mortar stores are having a very hard time with the convenience and cost effectiveness of shopping online.

This news is a sign of the times.  Toys R Us was a great concept; it was always a part of the Christmas shopping madness.  Yes, I believe the chain gave way to the power of online shopping.  Amazon will be king of the jungle soon enough.

Good, they were overrated for decades anyways.   Kids should spend their time playing with themselves not a pee wee herman doll

Wow, never thought this could happen. I love to get the big book catalog from that store. I guess when the kids grew-up, and I don't buy toys anymore, well, uc how much I shopped there, ic I kept them in business.

Toys'r'us used to be great and I have great memories. Unfortunately times change and people go online now.

In the 1980's there were toy stores called Davis Toys and   Bee's Toys which were cool and quality lil mom and pop stores . Toys R Us put them out of business by sheer numbers of stores in the area and an insane advertising blitz  all over the tv ,radio and billboards. I'm actually glad to see this chain die.  From cool quality Mego Toys-pure plastic crap shows to disintegration of the toy industry.

That's too bad. As a kid hearing you're going to Toys R Us was the next best news you could get after Disneyland. Were they the only major toy store left? Not to be one of those people griping about the internet, but it's just not as fun to order a toy from the internet as shopping in person!

Kind of sad. These stores are adored by children. I use to take my children there to shop and they would be so excited. Hate to see them go.

I have a feeling that his won't be the end of Toys R Us, just perhaps the end of this version of Toys R Us. The name is too valuable to let it slide. I'm sure someone will buy the name and restructure it down the line.
