Be careful with the cell-phone offers
« on: October 14, 2009, 12:51:02 am »
This is really my own dumb fault, but I had some pretty high charges on my cell bill this month and realized it was from some of the cell-phone offers--you know, the ones that will send you horoscope predictions by text or whatever. I guess I'm too used to the trial offers and stuff, because for some reason I thought these cell-phone things were similar--wouldn't start charging right away or something. Yeah, wrong. The charge goes on your bill as soon as you enter the PIN. So...you know, just keep that in mind.

I avoid any cellphone connection like the plague!!! For me it's $9.99 per company to "sign-up" and $1 for every confirmation or text or whatever they send me. Frankly I don't have the money to deal with all that and so anything that says cell phone confirmation I back out of. My mother-in-law had $25 in charges from one of those and swears she didn't do it but someone did be it her or my sister-in-law. Thankfully we were able to cancel it and get the charges dropped but they are going to do that more than once I'm thinking.

yes, I once signed up for a free ringtone with out reading the fine print. Only the first one was free, the rest cost money. I had a prepaid phone and didn't have any minutes so I didn't even know and even forgot about getting the ring tones all together. Much later when I put minutes on they went right back off to pay for the ringtones. I was so mad, but you live and learn.    :-[

As soon as you do it, text STOP & you won't get charged. You should really read everything on the page before you do stuff like that.

Nope, I can attest to the original poster that they charge you no matter what.
I texted stop to 2 of them before but still racked up an extra $20 on my cell phone bill.

I've done it before, & as soon as I texted STOP to the number, I never got charged, nor did I receive anymore texts. I got lucky.

This is what I did, and I was still charged.

Be very careful with all those horoscope, contest entries and the like that just want you to put in your cel number, some of them are $9.99 and don't say that anywhere on the initial page. Even if you type STOP, you can get charged, but if you take the time to call your carrier and it shows that you did type STOP, they will in most cases credit yur bill.
