That has to be rough.  I know that this is something I couldn't be good at.  I couldn't get my kids to clean their rooms  I am sure I would have just done the work for them.  Wish you luck.  I do think home schooling is the best if you can do it.

It depends what you are trying to teach your grandson thru homeschooling.
     Here are some basics:
          - Survival skills
          - Personal hygiene
          - Accountability
          - Behavioral responsibility...and much more!

Then it is REALLY different where you live.  In my state home school has a curriculum you follow and it is the same as what they are learning if they were in school.

Yeah cause this will get him in to college and prepare him for getting a job and not living off the government. smh
Home school the kids are suppose to do the same work and study the same subjects they would in a regular classroom.  Not learn their colors off sesame street and call that learning or school.  My cousins are home schooled and they basically are going to an online school.  They have around 4 hours instruction a day ( I think ) and they do it on their iPad.  You can also use a laptop.  But they do the same stuff they would do in a regular classroom for their grade.

Again, I guess it depends on where you live but you need to do some real research and not on this site.  You do not have to do the home school thru the public school in your home town.  There are several online schools.  But you have to pay for him to attend.  And you will need a laptop or iPad.  I am also pretty sure (no good way to word this) but you have to be smart enough to teach the subjects.  I know people who were not able to do the home school because they could not pass the subject themselves let alone teach a child the subject.  I think that is why a lot of people do the online school.  You have real teachers who do the teaching.

Idk what the answer is but a lot of times when kids are home schooled they are at a huge disadvantage if they want to get a good job.  And most kids who are home schooled end up being a social misfit and can't function because they are sheltered from ever dealing with other people.  Maybe having more private schools that do not cost $30,000 a year to attend? But at the same time it costs a lot to run a school and a private school does not get state funding.  A private school where you can have rules and if you attend here you will abide by the rules.  I am truly afraid of what our country has become and what the far left are trying to turn it in to.  People had better wake up.  But honestly some things have just gone to far and it isn't going to change.  I honestly cannot believe what has happened to our country.  I never dreamed I would see some of the things I am seeing.  :(

I have a friend who homeschooled her daughter from grade 1 to grade 11.  During this time I remember many many times she and her daughter would be out shopping, out eating, going to get haircuts, etc when she was suppose to be ‘in school’. I also know she’s allowed to sleep later than ‘school started’. Anyway the daughter decided she wanted to go to regular school for 12th grade.  She wanted a graduation ceremony, a prom, etc.  So off she went to ‘regular’ school.  The first month or two were great, made a lot of friends, etc.  However, the newness wore off and she could not accept having to show up and stay all day, 5 days a week.  Could not get up out of her seat anytime for a drink, eat, or turn on tv.  There was NO way she was going to listen to some idiot teacher all day.  All this was new to her and by December grades were all failing and she cut so many classes she finally dropped out.  She could not accept the rules of school.  Today she is bar tending, has 2 children by 2 different men who are not being raised by her, and countless men in her life.  If you decide to homeschool do what country girl said, don’t do it yourself, go either to an online school or a school in your district, either one but make sure it has a curriculum they must follow, and make them follow

I think homeschooling can be a huge advantage or a huge disadvantage, depending on who is doing the homeschooling. I've seen instances where the parent had enough self-discipline to do a great job of teaching their children at home. I've also seen homeschooling situations where the parent and child are doing a lot of other stuff during the school hours than teaching and learning, much to the child's disadvantage.

As far as a homeschooling curriculum, the one I remember the really good parent/teacher using is the one from Liberty University. Wishing you the best of luck in this endeavor!!  :peace:

You do not have to do it during the school hours.  As long as it gets done.  I know a woman who homeschooled her daughter because of severe food allergies.  She was a cop.  She worked days.  So she done the school in the evenings.  People are misinformed. You do not have to do it between 8 and 3.  There are a lot more options than there use to be.  About 20 years ago in my home town you have to go through the home school program here.  Or that is what most people thought.  I knew the woman over it and she was bat crap crazy.  A lot of people did not want to have to deal with her.  But now there are tons of online schools you can use.  You need to make sure it is accredited if your child wants to go to college.  I am not sure if all colleges accept all home schooling.  And you need to make sure they are learning what they need to in order to pass the ACT to get in to college.  If you are home schooled thru 12th grade and then try to get a job I am not sure how that works either. So yeah it has disadvantages.

The dad did not put him in "no child left behind".  That is something that was shoved down the throat of all the schools.  And you are correct they kid was passed no matter what.  A kid my nephew was in school with was making all F's and they had to pass him on.  I do not agree with this.  If the kid doesn't make the grade they need to fail.  I don't know what an IEP is.  But from what you are saying it doesn't sound like home school is a good option for you.  If you do not have the time to dedicate to it he will just get farther behind.  But not really if they are passed even if they don't know how to read or add 2 and 2.

I can understand more why so many jobs require testing to be hired and you have to score so high to be considered for employment.  I know several places in my area that do this.

I still think it depends on what program you go through.  In my area home school kids / parents do not have to meet with the school board period.  I would look for an online program where they have real teachers.  You need something with a camera because it is like video chat.  You see each other.

The reason i blame the father he was living in another county with me and his great grandmother he was doing really well in school but he was afraid we would go after him for child support so he uprooted him and mistreated him beat him like a man when he brought bad grades but would not work with teachers to get him the help he needed. Our community doesnt honor the no child left behind to the letter: in the way that they implement so many programs for the help of the children.
