How Important is Money?
« on: October 17, 2009, 12:22:40 pm »
Just wondered, I think it's pretty high and even though my family comes first, I couldn't help them as much without money. My son just called with another $2,000 problem and it feels good to be able to bail them out.

I like what Zig Ziglar said, "Money is not everything in life, but it ranks right up there with oxygen".

You're a good man, Oldbuddy...I once ranked money under family/love, but now that I'm divorced and on my own for the first time in 25 yrs. , money is my only concern. It will help me swim not sink. Take care of my Son. Money is 'THE' most important thing for me right now. How to survive.

Right now money is pretty important for me, because I need a lot more than I have. My engine in my car went, and I am borrowing my dad's van until I can get enough money to get a decent vehicle to get back and forth to work, which is 35 miles away. It's hard to save up any money when I have to pay a lot in gas. So I wish there was a way to get a lot of money fast, without getting a big loan that will take forever to pay back.

Very important, but not necessarily the most important.  I don't think the presence of money ensures someone a "good"/"happy" life, but it certainly plays a positive role in my opinion.  I'd say financial disagreements/struggles is the #1 or #2 cause of unhappy marriages and relationships of all kind.

I voted "Pretty important, but not highest"  We need money to pay the bills, food, shelter, and to take care of other daily necessities as long as it covers enough of what we need. I know there are people who are financially wealthy who had everything in life, yet still are very unhappy. Some even committed suicide. Money isn't everything. It can buy material comfort, but not happiness.

This is so true.

I always used to think the whole " money can't buy you happiness" was true. But now I can't really say that money isn't the most important thing. Mainly because your health is what I consider most important, and without money you are pretty screwed in that department.
I tell my son that being happy with your job will be very important, but he needs to make as much money as he can. If there is some tragic problem with his or his family's health, a need for a transplant, cancer etc. He won't have to worry about an insurance company deciding to let them die. He won't go without prescriptions he needs.
So , yeah, sadly money is the most important thing.

Very important.  My hours were cut at work.  I'm very thankful I do have a job...I've lost a paycheck a month....Things will be back on track soon.......

when you have money, it can take you places and take care of your family.  without it, what would you have.

:) Money is essential in life...It is one of those things in life: If you have it, you can move... if you do not have it, you cannot move. Do not forget: Money buys necessities!

Money is not the most important thing in my life, but having some sure does help along the way. It is a necessity of life and everybody needs it. Money can't buy happiness but if you don't have any it can make you pretty miserable too.

Money might not be THE most important thing in life.  Your family, your health rank higher, BUT if there is a constant worry about if there will be enough money it affects the family and eventually your health.
