That depends on you, how do you feel about the 2,200 mile move? Unless you have no one or anything holding you back, then it would be a move that you would have to come to terms with. Change is always good. Good luck in which ever you choose! :)

I have been there on vacation. Beautiful state.  I wish Blacksheep would read this I think they live in Arizona and could really help you.  I was there only for a short time so I can't be of much help. Sorry

It's pretty hard for anyone else to give you much help in this decision, it's all up to you and your tastes. I have been to Arizona once and that was enough for me, but others don't like the rain in Oregon where I love living. I moved here in 1969 from California and lots of friends thought I was crazy. From what you say, you don't have a lot to lose, since you could always move again.

I lived in Arizona for 18 months and for 6 months of each year, the weather was unbearably hot! I don't particularly like the heat, but if you do, it's a great place with lots to do. My next door neighbor has just moved from Arizona and he loved the heat! One of my favorite things to do was camping in Flagstaff which gets loads of snow in the winter and is not too far away from the Grand Canyon. Do you have any connections there? People you can meet up with to show you the area? Perhaps do some research online before you make the move just to make sure it's what you're looking for.

That big of a move I would be tempted to go for an extended vacation to try it out before making a permanent move.  Do you have friends there or are  you totally starting over?   My husband and I are both recently retired and have discussed moving to a completely new area.  It's a nice thought.

Raised in Florida, ready to move....deciding to move to Arizona.....anyone have any thoughts on this?

You certainly know what "hot" means living in Florida, although Florida is a LOT more humid than Arizona could ever be.  We have a saying here in Arizona - "It's a DRY heat," LOL, and yes, it is and very, very hot in the summer time.  Temps in summer ALWAYS go well over 100 degrees, but look at the bright side - you go from an air conditioned home to an air conditioned car to an air conditioned store.  If you decide to go up north to Sedona or Flagstaff, you can expect your summers to be a bit cooler than in Phoenix or it's surrounding areas.  Up north, they get snow, so if you like to ski or like the change of weather, you might prefer it there.  Phoenix has generally mild winters.  We get a lot of "Snow birds" here in the winter time from places up north and Canada.  For the most part, winters here have temperatures in the 50's or higher.  I've celebrated many a Thanksgiving and Christmas with the doors open because it was actually in the 70's or 80's, LOL.  On occasion, we do get a wicked winter.  A couple of years back the temps dropped to the 20's as a low.  People were scrambling to cover their bushes and trees from the frost.  Of course, we have our "Monsoon" season, which brings a lot of rain in certain areas and I don't know if you're familiar with Haboobs (dust storms or sandstorms), but some of those could be pretty wicked, too.  Here's an awesome video that a gentleman took from Gilbert, AZ as one of our more awesome Haboobs hit us:

Arizona really doesn't lack for anything.  There's restaurants, and shopping, and plenty of entertainment.  :)

It does get well over 100 degrees in the shade every summer, but they forgot to tell you there is not much shade from a cactus.

I'm going to Arizona this week-end to visit family.
It depends on which part of Arizona you are going to.  The Northern part is more desert, you get more foliage up north where Sedona is.

I'm going to the Phoenix area.  It is very flat.  In the summer it is like a blast furnace to go outside. It is best to go with solar energy because you'll need to run your air condition 24/7 in the summer, It is so hot there, I don't know how people live there.  The plus is you can get houses really cheap.
But the prices are going up, like everywhere.  If you golf you'll love it.   If you can spend summers elsewhere, like a lot of people do, then you'll be fine if you like flat land & no trees or grass, just dirt and cement and cactus and greenery around the golf courses.
