Off-Topic / Re: I dread the weather coming up

It has just cooled off enough that we can open our windows in the evenings. As a desert dweller I love when the weather gets cold tbh, but I can understand the cold is a hassle in other parts of the country.

Sorry to hear that. I hope you'll be on the mend soon. I caved and got my flu shot this week. I guess you still should too because you never know what strain you caught.

I might check it out on netflix or whatever. I'm not too interested in sci fi stuff but from the commercial I saw I was just impressed with the technology to CGI up a decent young Will Smith. Other movies in the past handful of years have done that but they're getting better at it. In a decade or so I wonder if we'll be able to tell who's real.

We got my mom a landline back because she never knows where her phone is or has it charged or turned on. I do like having a landline actually if multiple people live in the house.

I completely understand keeping sentimental things like that. I have relatives whose houses are nothing but an accumulation of sentimentally-kept things though, not only their own but those they've inherited from multiple layers of their deceased relatives, and they keep it because "who else would appreciate it?". I understand and yet I really, really don't want to be in that situation. You have to have your own life too.

Off-Topic / What do you say when asked "describe yourself"?
« on: October 11, 2019, 03:15:30 pm »Message ID: 1296735
Am I the only one who hates being asked that?

I remember once a teacher called on me in class and said "describe yourself" and I just locked up and couldn't think of a thing to say. His point was most people describe themselves primarily by their job, but I have never really placed a sense of identity in that. I have no great list of credentials & accomplishments to rattle off, I'm fine just being "a person" but it makes for a lousy answer to that question.

I really don't do horror movies so the scariest I've seen is probably Poltergeist. That's pretty tame compared to what's out there but I have learned that it's so much better not to put certain things into your mind in the first place.

I bet it wasn't the banana's fault you got sick. I have had that happen with lots of foods where I happened to eat it right before getting unrelatedly ill, and then the flavor reminds me of that. Maybe in time you will be ready to give it another try!

The sneaky part is instead of raising the price on something, they just make the amount you get smaller. I can't count how many times in the last few years I've taken something out of the package and gone "heyyy, wait a minute." Not just portion amounts but the actual food, stuff like Oreos, Reeses pb cups, Ding Dongs etc are all definitely smaller than 10 years ago.

That's a nice show, it's not one I go out of my way to watch but it would do society well to have something half that wholesome on tv again. All children on tv now are the same sarcastic precocious character. A child who talks like an adult hasn't been unique or funny for years and I hope someone realizes it soon. Beaver was kind of dumb but it would be nice if we were allowed to see kids with real, wholesome dumb kid problems on tv.

I don't really go out of my way to see disturbing things and I don't care at all about Batman etc. so this is one I don't plan on seeing.

Without knowing anything about the actual movie, what did disturb me about it is how much all the news outlets were practically hoping for a theater shooting to happen. I must have seen half a dozen "boy wouldn't it be terrible if someone shot up this movie? we'll give you the INSIDE SCOOP if it does!!" type reports. I wish they'd quit setting the stage like that.

Really? I see it almost every day. Lately it's been the webmd thing, kind of a pain to click through that many pages for only 1 penny, but at least it's there.

I love it! Best time of the year. Possible we may still see a straggler triple digit temperature but for the most part I think we are home free :D

I'm so sorry! There is a lot of dental trouble in my family and I know that stuff is such a pain not to mention expensive.
