Off-Topic / Re: What was your first thought this morning?

my first thought this morning was "how is it already sunday and i still have not accomplished anything on my weekend to-do list?" then i looked out the window and saw that it was raining, realized that the to-do list wasn't going to get done today either, climbed back into bed and snuggled with my little girl until my husband got home from work

Off-Topic / Re: why men sometimes treat the "mistress" better than the wife???

my dad cheated on my mom for awhile a few years back and when the whole thing came out he told my mom straight out that he treated his girlfriend so good because she was appreciative of him. my parents had been married for 24 years at the time and the most my mom ever had to say to him was complaining and nagging, she never wanted to go out with him, didn't dress up for him, and never minded if he was gone because she felt like he never put in any effort with her. from my dad's perspective he felt like she didn't love him anymore, she didn't want him around and didn't appreciate what he tried to do for her. and while i do not agree with his cheating i do understand the reasoning behind it. luckily for them and the rest of the family he ended the affair and began putting that effort and attention into his marriage, so my mom returned the effort and their relationship is going very well, and headed towards their 30th anniversary in a few months

thats an automatic red flag to me. it makes me think that he's already got a wife/fiancee/girlfriend somewhere else and is just playing you. the only acceptable reason i can think of for keeping an engagement a secret is if there are people within the families that disapprove but even then keeping it a secret isn't going to change that, its just going to prolong the inevitable situation

i love daffodils. i love the bright yellow color, the unique shape of them, and the fact that when i was growing up we lived next to a UGE meadow full of them and i would run out and pick my mom vase fulls all the time. for more traditional flowers, like roses, i like the dark yellow ones with the really dark green leaves or the paler yellow ones wiht the pinkish-red tinge to the ends of the petals

while it is a combination of the things that the previous posters have stated, i think this recent epidemic can also be blamed on the successfulness of celebrity and entertainment media that glamourizes being a teen mom. i was a teen mom and found absolutely nothing glamourous about it but teens now aren't seeing the bad side of it and most are not being forced to face the consequences of their actions, in turn not realizing the actual harm they are causing to these babies they are having

i don't have an iphone because i am with sprint but even if i was with at&t or verizon i still wouldn't get an iphone because i do not have any need for a smartphone like that and i do not care for apple products at all. i'm probably one of the very few people with a cell phone that does not even have a QWERTY :)

i have no idea. we moved from an apartment so didnt have or know anything about lawnmowers. about 2 months into living here a guy knocks on my door, says he works at the mechanics on the corner of my street and offers to cut my front lawn for $20. i told him i'd pay him $40 if he would do the back yard too and he walked back to his work, pulled a lawnmover, a rake and an edger out of his benz and got started and has taken care of lawn ever since then. and when i move next week he'll start coming to my new house to take care of it there as well  ;D

we just had a similar debate but the deciding factor wasn't whether the mortgage was legit or not, it was considering that we would be responsible for every little thing that goes wrong with the house. as a renter, if something breaks i call my landlord and he either sends someone out to fix it or i fix it and send him a receipt and deduct it from the rent the following month. as for the freedom issue, we have a wonderful relationship with our landlord and he had no problem with my painting walls, remodeling the kitchen, landscaping the yard, or any of the other changes i've made to the house. the agreement we made at our lease signing was the house had to be in same or better condition and i have made very postive changes to it. in fact, our landlord-tenant relationship is so great that last year when we mentioned we were going to be looking for a new place because we needed more room, our landlord asked me to look at a few houses that were for sale in our city and he actually bought the one i liked best just so he could rent it to us. so this coming weekend i get to move to an awesome new house that was purchased specifically for us but still get the benefits of being a renter

Off-Topic / Re: should women go to bed with men on the first date? and why?

i don't think it is a good idea but will not judge those who do. in my first relationship i made my boyfriend wait almost 3 years before we became intimate and were broken up about 2 months later. a few years later, after a few casual relationships but no intimacy i was out for a friends bachelorette party, was kinda tipsy and i met a guy. we hooked up, me knowing it was not a good idea but also knowing that it would not lead to anything and dismissing it as a one night stand (not necessarily a "healthy" thing but at least i was aware of the cirumstances and potential consequences.) but imagine my surprise when he called me the next morning to ask me out to lunch. lunch turned into dinner the next day, 2 dates the following weekend, and 3 months of dating without any intimate encounters. we had such a connection the night we met that "giving him the milk" did not stop him from "buying the cow" because 2 years later we were married and now have 2 kids together and are very happy~!

we had a HUGE bbq/potluck at my aunts house and there was macaroni and cheese with ham, machaca (shredded beef) tacos, pork tamales, fried milanesa, spanish rice, pasta salad, bean dip, an assortment of veggies and dips, fresh fruit platter, bacon wrapped hot dogs, steak burgers, grilled chicken skewers, nachos, cocktail weinies and meatballs, chips, soda, beer, wine, cornflake clusters, strawberry limeade cupcakes, candy coated rice krispie eggs, banana pudding, and even more that i can not remember because i am still in a food coma from it all :D

cold weather! if its hot outside its difficult to cool down but if its cold its so much easier to get warm. plus, i am a jeans and sweater kind of girl and would be pretty miserable trying to sport that in warm weather, especially in southern california. and i live in the high desert so i know just how bad hot weather can be :/

Off-Topic / Re: should school days be reduced from 5 to 4 days a week?what do you think?
« on: April 25, 2011, 08:59:17 pm »Message ID: 344337
Since we have moved here on post our kids attend school 5 days per week, but EVERY Wednesday they have a half of a day...not to mention ANYTIME there is a holiday or reason to have a day off, they close school.

where i live the public schools have seriously cut down hours this school year. my son goes to school from 9am to 3pm monday tuesday thursday and friday and on wednesdays he goes from 9am to 140pm. then the 2nd friday of every month is off for staff day/inservice and then the last monday of every month is a furlough day. my son gets a whole week off for thanksgiving, 3 weeks for christmas, and a week for spring break. school starts the last week in august and gets out the 3rd week in may. luckily my son is a great student and this has not affected his grades/development but i have seen how it has affected other kids in our neighborhood and it is such a shame the the education system is honestly failing our children.

Off-Topic / Re: Where do you vacation at?

my favorite vacation spot is my own home! i hate traffic and crowds and with the high cost of gas, admission, and food at most popular destinations there is nothing i'd rather do is relax at home, in my own pool, and not have to deal with anyone but the people i love.

not too much candy for me, just too much wine! which is anything more than 2 glasses for me because i've become such a lightweight! we had a great bbq at my aunts house, a lot of cousins i hadn't seen in awhile, and a huge egg hunt for the kids (both of my kids being the big winners and finding the $5 golden eggs) but the highlight of the day was my 19yr old brother and my 21yr old Marine cousin having a cake fight, chasing each other around the yard until they tripped over each other, my brother completely ripping his pants and my cousin landing in the pool!

first birthdays are definitely special but they are all fun! my daughter turns 3 next month and while planning the party and gifts is a breeze, my dilemma will be how to fit all her current interests into one theme. she wants "princess, kai-lan, bubble guppies, sesame street" party. have no idea how i'm going to fit all that on one cake! :)

my son's birthday will be much easier. he'll be 11 in august
