i have no idea what this little girl does to entertain herself, but I promise you we will be the aunt and uncle that spoils her with the toys -- I did try to keep the noisy ones to a minimum because I don't want to have the payback from that!  :)

That child must get into a lot of mommy and daddys things if she has none of her own. My daughter has more toys then she knows what to do with and she has had toys from day one.

well you know that children have a huge imagination! lol ! has anyone bought a few toys or just a toy for their child and the child plays with the box it came in instead?

oh yes - the paper and the box are much more enjoyable sometimes.  my son loves to play the drums on these boxes! :)

oh...valerie, you have a kind and considerate heart! are the parents just not into toys/indifferent? or, and if this is the case, you're an awesome aunt, are they at a disadvantage and not able to buy any?

honestly - i think they may be just a bit selfish -- they get what they want...
no one has a lot of extra cash laying around and that I understand but i am not rich and yet my son has fun with what he has!  :)
I just think that it is sad -- and to specifically ask people to bring toys for all the kids to share at the birthday party -- a bit sad in my opinion -

The metal rings that are on mason jars ( home canned food) are really great. My kids loved them. They also loved a kitchen pot a spoon, Bang, Bang, Bang and Clang, Clang, Clang. they made mud pies, and played in the dirt. NOW they had plenty of toys, but seemed to like to home made ones best.

We would sing, and do nursery rhymes. They would put on fashion shows, and have talent contest. We would play I spy and hide and seek. I would read them stories.

You really don't need many, IF any plastic junk ( toys) for a kid to enjoy life, learn, be happy and feel loved..

Well, IF she has more than she knows what to do with, THEN you sure wasted a lot of money, didn't you??

ANY child MUST be taught to STAY OUT of other peoples things. PERIOD. They must be taught respect for others and some discipline at an early age.

You can't pet and baby them and let them run the household. Let them run wild, and when they get about 13 or 14 and are running the streets,  THEN THINK YOU CAN DISCIPLINT THEM.  TOO LATE!!

she goes to grandma's a lot I think -- not sure if there are toys there for her.
we purchased some educational type toys - so she can learn her colors, shapes, etc as well as build her coordination.
I have a 2 year old and well he probably has more toys than he needs, but he is well ahead of his age group in developement and he was born 3 months premature!   (so I have nothing against his toys!)

After sounding so mean in my previous post, I do agree that they need rattles, and things to help them learn, but many of the home made toys can also help them to learn and children do enjoy those as well. My kids did have educational toys as well as the home made ones.

i can only imagine what a 1 year old with no toys would be like! my daughter has had toys since she was born, early on they were for development and hand/eye coordination but as she got older we bought her stuff she showed interest in. she will be 2 in a few weeks and will be getting more toys, even though she probably has way more than any kid really needs. :) yeah its a pain to have to help her clean all her toys up everyday but i'd rather that then have her sitting around bored all day, watching too much tv, or worse, being a holy terror because she has nothing to play with

That is so sad to hear. My 2 yr old niece has had toys since she was born and I can't imagine a kid without toys. I had toys when I was growing up. I would not want to see a kid growing up without toys to play with and to learn with. My 2 yr. old niece went to the doctor the other day and they told us that she has the mental span and speech of a 4-5 yr. old. I think it has to do with the toys she has had.
