one year old - no toys

My children are all grown up now with families of their own.  However when my son was small he preferred to play with wash cloths, plastic cups, spoons, pots, boxes, pans, bowls, etc.  and he also had a roomful of all kinds of toys.

I've never heard of a child not having any toys, that makes little sense to me. My daughter didn't have a lot of toys for like her first year so we made do with letting her play with some of the cat's toys and just randomly making things out of paper for her to play with. She had a lot of fun with any and all kinds of boxes as well.

Poor people have no toys.  My parents used to tell me growing up in the country their toys was bugs, animals and their siblings.  Both of them had a lot of siblings growing up and they couldn't barely afford store bought clothes let alone toys.

 i don't understand how she has no toys. all childern need some type of stimulation and maybe she is getting that in many other ways. but toys for her b-day sounds like great idea.

What a shame for her to not have any toys.  how do they occupy her time? How will she learn to build things and work things out if she has nothing to build with etc?  I am glad to hear that you at least are getting her some toys all children need play time to learn and develop and grow.

Children learn from exploring and playing, it's hard to imagine her not having anything to work her mind and her coordination.

Well, IF she has more than she knows what to do with, THEN you sure wasted a lot of money, didn't you??

Nope not a lot of wasted money. at least not on my part. We are fortunate to have people that like to give gifts.

ANY child MUST be taught to STAY OUT of other peoples things. PERIOD. They must be taught respect for others and some discipline at an early age.

You can't pet and baby them and let them run the household. Let them run wild, and when they get about 13 or 14 and are running the streets,  THEN THINK YOU CAN DISCIPLINT THEM.  TOO LATE!!

wow what does having a lot of toys do with being disciplined. My daughter is very well behaved. I dont let my daughter do whatever she wants . I wasnt disciplined as a child and i turned out fine. a 3.72 gpa in college

I don't have children (yet), but don't they need at least some kind of brain stimulation to develop logical/creative skills early on? Like those big blocks you have to fit through the correct shapes, baby musical instruments, etc.

that is actually pretty sad. i dont understand why a child wont have toys. i have never heard of this before. my kids have so many toys that i dont know what to do with them. lol

  poor baby. I am sure mom can affort at least a dollar toy. Is that the only child? Normally mom n dad go crazy getting everything they find out there. That's not talking about the grandmas. Maybe they do it for the childs safety, but many toys are safe for one year old babies.
