carpal tunnel
« on: April 21, 2010, 05:45:19 am »
Anyone here have carpal tunnel? If you do, how do you manage the pain?

I've had a severe flare up the past couple of days that's had me off the computer.  :( Just curious how others manage the pain...

I have for years, but I just switch hands. It's mainly the mouse that arouses mine.

Had a family member that had it and i know it can be very painful and can require an operation - I wish you well.

I suffer from it when I use a mouse that's too small.  When I stop using the mouse, it goes away.
You may want to look into getting an ergonomic mouse and keyboard.

My father suffered from carpal tunnel and had surgery for it... I fear my nephew is going to have problems when he gets older he's always playing some sort of handheld video game, the xbox, or a game on the pc and his hands gets stiff at times... no matter how much we try and keep him off those games he always finds his way to them, he would even get up and sneak on the games in the middle of the night... I pray yours get better without surgery, no one ever wants to have surgery!

Managing the pain is a tough one.  I found that wearing a brace helped me so much that I don't have to anymore.  I also tried to identify just what was causing it to get worse.  ( you know, it hurts when I do this....so don't do that any more.) It was computer work for eight hours a day and working in the garden.  I started taking breaks and doing some sort of "reverse stress' exercises like stretching my fingers and flexing them, then relaxing.  Aleve helped a lot too.  I never did have to have surgery but don't have some many severe days anymore.  Hope this helps.
