No, the government shouldn't have to make people support their children.  But do you honestly think that these dirt bags would support their children if they weren't being forced?  If they have to be forced to pay child support by court order in the first place, you could be sure that they wouldn't put a cent towards their kid(s) if there were no laws for it. 

I know my childhood would have been much better if my mother had paid child support to my father; an extra $100 or so a month would've improved our quality of life considerably (less canned food lol).  But I suppose it's a minor miracle my dad managed to get custody:  it was the 80's, after all.

It gets better:  he managed it because he traded everything we owned in order to get custody of us (including mine and my sister's beds).  And she agreed to it.  We lived with my Grandma for a while after that so Da could save up money to get back on his feet.  And the woman wonders why I didn't like talking to her for years.

Oh yeah, we never had much money growing up, but he worked double shifts to make sure we had what we needed when we were little.  Don't the 80s seem like "just yesterday" sometimes though?  (Despite it being 20+ years now O.o )

I also agree that you shouldn't HAVE to make someone take care of their children but it is a sad fact of life that many people just wash their hands of that part of their lives and move on. Sad situation all around.

I always wonder why the parent without the child feels like they don't need to suport there children you see a lot of this.  I personally feel that the parent without the children has it easy because they just pay a set amount. My kids father was only paying 300 a child but i was providing all the rest of the money and he makes more than I do.  I am not the one who decided to go out side the marriage for a relationship he was.  I think they should pay half of the exspense every month that includes school cloths and supplies. So if it takes 1200 a month per child to support the children they should have to pay $600 for each child. But I don't want problems so I just don't complain at least he sends me something my sister raised her son without child support and now the state is making him pay only the last 8 years of back child support at $50 amonth he was supose to pay $250 but he quit working and claimed he was disabled, and works under the table so the state wont take more from him.  That is just wrong.

No you shouldn't but unfortunately for reasons beyond comprehension there are people who refuse to step up to the plate and take care of their responsibilities.  I think a lot of times they are vindictive against their ex's and they don't realize it's hurting the child most of all.  But I suspect that if they are unwilling to pay child support they really don't care about the child in the first place.

That is one of the problems with our society.  More people need to take responsibility for their actions.  If you don't want to take care of your children, take precautions to not have children.

You shouldn't have to make someone take care of their children, but unfortunately no one has any responsibility anymore. I am a young, single mother. My ex pays child support of his own free will, without anyone having to force him. I don't understand how you can have a child, leave it and not care enough about that child to help support it.
