Rent or Own
« on: April 23, 2012, 09:07:52 am »
Do you pay rent or do you own your own property. I pay rent. I hope to one day have a house of my own with a beautiful pool in the backyard. Until then I will count my blessings and be grateful I have a roof over my head.

I still live with my parents, although I plan on moving out in the next month or so.  We currently own our house but when I move out I am planning on renting an apartment with my boyfriend.

I own two properties, one I live in the other is rented out, both mortages are paid off.  I would advise anyone to buy a property and pay off the mortgage as fast as possible.

Living with parents at the moment, though if I had the choice, I'm hoping to buy a place to live.  Not sure if that is my best bet as of yet, but I really don't like the idea of spending money towards something yet not having something to show for it later.

There are several advantages and disavantages to owning property.  I have owned property, had rental property, and rented apartments, all as a single mother.  I have now narrowed down all of these responsibilities and feel free and relieved of it, especially the grass cutting and snow shoveling, whew!. However, the extra income was nice.  Owning and maintaining property on your own, is definitely something I would recommend one do as a joint effort with a significant other sharing the responsibility because it is a LOT OF WORK!

We rent. Owning is a someday dream, but we don't mind renting. There are advantages to renting, especially since we aren't responsible for maintenance and fixing problems. I am glad that we have good landlords though!

i'm a renter, it just seems more easier and cheaper than owning.  even tho i'd love to own just right now in economy times renting is better

I'm living with my father at the moment, so technically neither.  I would say it's better to own, though.  Cheaper in the long run, and eventually, you have property that's worth something that you can use to get loans if needed.
