some of my kind people lost great jobs when the economy hit hard like it did and some are now working at fast food restaurants to make ends meet and they qualify for welfare and they keep the jobs, welfare is not just for lazy people. people that have worked their whole lives lost their jobs due to the economy and work for minimum wage now qualify to work and get welfare.  I have an uncle who was making 70,000 a year lost his job now makes at 10,000 a year with 3kids his rent is 500 a month water bill 80 a month light bill almost 350 a month and car insurance 118 a month and lets not talk about the gas to drive your car to work and doctor appts, he can use the foodstamps to help with groceries. I tell you people could make it in this world if groceries, light bill and gas was not so high or make min wage at least 15.00 an hour so people can live a little.

I think for welfare, we should be tested for drugs, and have mandatory public services for 20 hours/w at least. Should a person test positive for drugs, he/she can't apply for an year, and if the services are less than 20 hours/week, benefits will be reduced. My 2 cents.

They tried that in Florida and only 2% tested postive for drugs, so now the state gets to repay the 98% who tested clean back the money they had to pay for the test.

I think it depends on the individuals situation, if it is a child issue, 1...is there a way the parent can work 2...can they help with the child care while the parent works....what is being abused is women receiving welfare for their kids, and the father or husband lives with them without the state knowing..I am witnessing a girl now that receives tons of state aid, over 500 in food stamps, and everytime they help with utilities she knows when to sign up, her dead beat boyfriend lives with her.
