There are a lot of scams. I have bought and sold stuff on Craigslist though. I recently sold a salvage car to a guy who just needed the body for a motor he already had. Paid cash and picked it up. No problems there. I do feel nervous EVERYTIME I use it, but have only had one bad experience (people claimed something didnt work that I sold, but it was working when I sold it).

I would never buy a car or anything else from Craigslist that required me meeting someone in person. I know of people who have gotten jobs from Craigslist. I would hire someone from CL if I need some data entry done, virtual assistant but that's about it.

Even if you find a car and think it's not a scam, be very careful! Check Kelly Bluebook and definitely get the car inspected by someone you trust before purchasing! A lot of people put things up for sale of CraigsList bc they want way more money than the product is actually worth.

Craigslist does NOT buy or sell anything, it is simply an electronic bulletin board to exchange offers to buy or sell products and services. You need to use the same caution as you would if you responded to a card posted at the laundry or grocery store.

In my area several of the Police Stations have offered their lobbies for people to make Craigslist transactions, in this day and age I would only use that option when dealing with someone off CL

You just have to be really really careful about what you're looking at. I think if you keep that in mind, you'll be okay

I have bought and sold a few minor, inexpensive things on Craigslist.  However, anything important and costly, I would never consider it.  A car needs to be looked at by a mechanic.  If the seller is on the up and up, they should split the cost of the mechanic.  If you get a car from such an unregulated medium, everything, and I do mean EVERYTHING, needs to be in writing.  Also, remember, used cars from private individuals or dealers who do not have extended warranties are "AS-IS" sales.  You have NO legal recourse.

Craigslist is like a giant magnet that attracts all the scum, riff raff, thieves and con artists.  Why anyone would buy or sell anything on Craigslist is asinine.  Too many horrible things has happened because of Craigslist.
