I think it is overblown. The media is causing hysteria, and people in general are easily brainwashed. The flu kills tens of thousands of people every year in the US alone, and no one is hoarding face masks over that.

This is more deadly than the flu. If you think it is not a big deal I am sure they would use you as a volunteer to treat people who have it.  And yes, people do wear masks to avoid the flu.  This virus is more contagious and more deadly. If you and others think it is not big deal then why do you care what others are doing to prepare for an outbreak in their area?  I don't care what others do to prepare for this in my general location.

You are blowing what I said out of proportion, just like the media. I never said the coronavirus is not a big deal. Of course it is if it's killing people. What I'm saying is the media is freaking everyone out. Should you be cautious and take extra precautions? Yes! Should you run out to the store and buy everything off the shelves? Should you buy face masks in bulk at exorbitant prices? That's overblown, and it prevents others from buying things that they need.

You are doing the same thing you accuse me of. I never said go buy 500 masks. I do not have any issues with people stocking up. I am not worried about if you get it. Sounds harsh but it is what it is. I will get what I need for me. That is all others are doing. I have not seen anyone buying 12 packages of toilet paper. One or two yes. They have that right.  I have not seen masks on the shelves in my area in weeks.  No I will not pay $700 for a box (which I did see on Amazon).  I can stay at home.  Right now I have bigger concerns. But if I think I need something and it may become unavailable or I may be locked on my property for an extended amount of time you get bet your bottom dollar I will pick up a few extra so I have what "I" need!

First you say people are clearing the shelves at your local Walmart. And then you say you haven't seen anyone stocking up outside of the ordinary. So which is it?

Use your head here.  Yes the other day there were pictures of the shelves empty. So a lot of stuff was sold. It does not mean one person bought it all.  People are so stupid.  I heard a conversation the other day with some wench making fun of people buying toilet paper.  Yes the shelves were empty of certain brands. But each person was only purchasing maybe one or two packages.  That is not a huge stock up.  Nor is it hoarding. It is a lot of people buying ONE or TWO packages of something.

I didn't say one individual person was hoarding everything. I said lots of people are clearing the shelves of stuff they don't necessarily need due to the coronavirus hype. My husband has a cold and wanted to buy some decongestant, and the entire cold and flu aisle was bare. If you think that's normal, then whatever.  ::)

No you said I said this and then I said that so which is it? So you are being smart with me and acting like I don't know what I am saying.  If you read what I said once I said that yes on Saturday certain items were gone.  Funny cause the shelves were restocked by Sunday evening.  I also said that it did not appear to be ONE person buying everything but a lot of people buying one or two.  So yes it got gone. It is on you if you did not do anything to prepare.  This will only get worse as the virus spreads.

I could say the same thing to you that you say to me.  You want something everybody else wanted and you are upset because you did not get it so whatever.  ::)  It is fine to be upset because something you need or want is not available but it is not okay to put down the people who did get it.

People are NOT stupid.  People are scared.  The CDC has said multiple times to stock up on cold meds and supplies and be ready to be locked in your home for at least 2 weeks. They do say in the same post but don't panic. Which is kind of foolish but oh well.  The entire country of Italy is on LOCK DOWN!  I realize the US is full of idiots so it will be harder to enforce a situation where people are barred to their homes.  And since this "job" of taking surveys LOL does not supply enough funds to pay the bills people have to work.  Less than 1% of the population can "work from home".

I think it is hilarious people like you are  >:(  because you can't get something and want to talk about the people who did get it. I can see being upset if you need something and it is not available.  But ..  How do you know they did not need it as well?  How do you know they are hoarding?  Maybe you need to look up hoarding.  That word seems to be misused as much as bully.  People do not even know what it means.  Having a couple of bottles of cold meds is not hoarding. One person purchasing ALL of it every time it hits the shelves is hoarding. I usually keep some cold meds all the time because you never know when you will need it and it is good to have it on hand.

More people than you know have enough supplies in their home to get them through at least a month.  Might not have everything they normally would or want but they could survive. Then you have some that could not get past 3-4 days. lol

I think it is a bit overblown as in scope.  I think it is a genuine concern for individual people.

No virus should be dismissed. The death rate for the coronavirus should be taken more seriously considering that the elderly are the most susceptible.

There's nothing wrong with being cautious and sanitary but it sounds to me like it's overblown. There's isn't that much annual panic over the regular flu which kills more people and doesn't have everyone panic-buying toilet paper and home depot dust masks.

A casino here in Boston, MA announced that it is going to start taking peoples  temperature at the door.  If your temp. is over 100 you are referred to a medical staff.

There is nothing they can do for this.  And it is not just the elderly that are dying.  And the death rate for this is much higher than the flu.  There is no way for them to win.  If they did not tell the people what was going on then it gets bad in your area you are going to cry and say they should have warned you.

A casino here in Boston, MA announced that it is going to start taking peoples  temperature at the door.  If your temp. is over 100 you are referred to a medical staff.

Honestly, this is going to hurt business.  When I realized that is what they were doing I would turn around and leave.  What does referred to medical staff mean?  Are you going to be quarantined because you have a fever? It has happened other places.  And this is no longer a have you been outside of the country thing.

lol.  The article doesn't mean anything.  You have no idea what each person's personal reasons for anything are. And neither does some random website where people "guess" at why people do things.  And your article is from the media which apparently is the reason behind the so called problem so why do you believe it if you do not believe the hype behind the virus?  The CDC has said repeatedly to prepare for extended periods of lock down in your home.  THAT is why people are buying extra.  THE CDC has said to stock up on items.  What amazes me is the people who are crying are mad because they did not get it but others did.  If 500 people all buy one of something and you do not get it that does not mean the ones that did are "hoarding".  Everybody's new favorite misused word.

I talked to a woman recently who is stocking up on certain items.  Not hoarding.  Simple buying a couple extra items.  She also had on a mask.  Yes people were making fun of her and judging her.  BUT if you could get off your high horse long enough to have a conversation you would know this woman has just finished cancer treatments.  She would likely not survive if she got this.  You do not know what other people are going through, their situation, or anything about them.

This is exactly the problem. Elderly people, sick people, and people with compromised immune systems aren't going to be able to buy what they need when other people are stockpiling stuff that they don't immediately need.
